Sunflowers in Mallorca: the summer flower
Some gifts need context and others explain themselves. The sunflower is the second kind: you don't need to know about flowers to get it. That is why it works so well when the message is simple and direct — a birthday, a thank you, a cheer-up, a discharge from hospital — and when the person receiving it isn't especially into flowers.
Their season is summer, which is when they arrive with big, firm, wide-open heads. Some weeks we get them a little beyond that, but we don't take it for granted: if you need them for a particular date, write to us before ordering and we will confirm what we have.

In summer, which is their season. Some weeks they also come in outside that window, but we don't promise it in advance. If you want them for a specific date, ask us before ordering.
How long does a sunflower bouquet last?
Six to ten days with clean water and away from direct sun. It is a thirsty flower: the stem is thick and drinks a lot, so check the water level daily rather than every other day.
Why is the head drooping?
Almost always lack of water rather than age: the head is heavy for the stem. Trim it at an angle, put it in plenty of water and it usually lifts within a couple of hours.
Do they combine with other flowers?
Yes. On their own they make a bold, modern bouquet; with lilies they gain volume and scent, and inside a seasonal mixed bouquet they bring the light. What doesn't work is pairing them with very delicate flowers: they swallow them.
Do they work as a corporate or hotel gift?
Very well, especially on a reception desk or a large table: they read from a distance and cope with the coming and going. For those we usually build a basket or an arrangement, which arrives finished and needs no vase.

When the delivery goes to an office, a hotel or a hospital, an arrangement beats a bouquet: it comes on water-soaked foam, nobody has to hunt for a vase and nothing needs handling. See floral arrangements.
What to order when sunflowers are out of season
Hydrangea and lilies are available all year, peonies are at their best in May and June, and tulips are the winter flower. All of it together in seasonal flowers.
